Booking Appointments

The current process for booking appointments over the phone remains in place. You will be screened to ensure that you have no cold or flu-like symptoms such as a fever, sore throat, runny nose, cough, nasal congestion of shortness of breath that are unrelated to a known or pre-existing condition.

You will be asked if you’ve had contact with anyone that has a presumptive or confirmed case of COVID-19, or if you have traveled outside the province in the last 14 days.

On the day of your appointment, if there have been any changes to your screening, please call to reschedule.

Physical Distancing

In an effort to help manage physical distancing within our waiting area we ask that you enter the building at your appointment time and that you do not come in early.

Unless absolutely necessary, please do not bring additional people to your appointment with you.

We also ask that you continue to adhere to the six-foot social distancing measures currently in place

Sanitizing

Upon entering our building, you will be asked to sanitize your hands. Our staff may be wearing masks.

Clients are encouraged to wear a barrier mask if they have one.

Assessment and treatment rooms are thoroughly sanitized after each use, and public areas are frequently sanitized throughout the day.

Remote Service Continues Where Necessary

Please remember that if you wish, we can continue to service your needs remotely where possible.

Many items such as CPAP masks and replacement parts, mobility items and compression support can be ordered by phone.

We will also continue to offer contactless curbside pickup.

Home Oxygen

We are continuing to do regular oxygen assessments remotely where possible. As always, home oxygen services are available 24 hours daily.

Masking & Proof of Vaccination Required

Since Family 1st Medical opened almost 35 years ago, our number one priority has been our client’s health and safety. With the recent announcement that Phase 5 will be delayed in NS, and in order to continue to provide our services in the safest manor possible patients must continue to wear a non surgical mask when visiting any of our 6 locations (New Minas, Sackville, Yarmouth, Antigonish, Amherst and Sydney). Family 1st Medical staff will also wear a mask when serving you at our locations and in your home.

Beginning September 13th, we will also ask for proof of vaccination when visiting our locations or to receive in-home services. To assist those who require our services (who are not vaccinated), our team members will wear additional Personal Protective Equipment to ensure everyone’s safety. As you can appreciate our medical team have close contact with many vulnerable clients, therefore we must take responsibility to ensure we don’t contract and pass on the COVID-19 virus.

We appreciate your understanding of the requirement from Public Health to continue masking, and our decision to request proof of vaccination. As always, providing the best service while protecting the health and safety of others remains our top priority.

Once the Province moves into Phase 5, we will re-evaluate how this impacts our business and valued clients.

Phillips Respironics Voluntary Recall

Philips Respironics announced a voluntary recall for Continuous and Non-Continuous Ventilators (certain CPAP, BiLevel PAP and Ventilator Devices) due to two issues related to the polyester-based polyurethane (PE-PUR) sound abatement foam used in these devices.
